Subject To The Law

Rom 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

There are those who teach that the Law of God:

• Is only for unbelievers

• Is NOT for believers

• Has been abolished

• Etc....

However, today we are focusing on the thought that the Law is only for unbelievers. This reasoning comes from:

1Ti 1:9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

1Ti 1:10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;

Which if properly understood, shows the truth of Romans 8:7. The characters who are mentioned above, NEED the Law, they just don't acknowledge it. Know that the Law isn't what makes us righteous, Christ does...the Law is the instrument that brings the sinner to Christ...which it does, once he/she quits the war against it.

Once you get to the place where Paul got:

Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

Rom 7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

We will see that as surely as God lives, His kingdom cannot function without it's subjects being in subjection to the Law Of God. We will see see that sin can only be pointed out by the Law:

Rom.3:20: ...for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

The sad truth is that people would rather obey the Law of their countries, rather than the Law Of God. They don't seem to mind doing this (think paying taxes), but for some reason, God's Law is a problem.

But it speaks to the carnality of the heart, which when transformed by the Spirit will be of this mind-set:

Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.
